Government & Politics School Trip to Washington D.C.

Fly from the UK to Washington Dulles or Reagan National early morning. Transfer to your central Washington accommodation. Afternoon walking tour of the National Mall: Lincoln Memorial, WWII Memorial, Jefferson Memorial, Washington Monument, Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial, Vietnam Veterans Memorial. Evening orientation meal near hotel.

Guided tour of U.S. Capitol Building, including video briefing and optional simulations (e.g. “Votes for Women”). Visit Supreme Court building and, if in session, view oral arguments. Tour the Library of Congress including key historic artifacts.

Visit National Archives to see original Declaration of Independence, Constitution and interactive exhibits. Photo stop at the White House Visitor Centre (interior visits require advance permission). Evening walk to memorial sites along the Mall.

Morning free visits to Smithsonian museums (e.g. American History, National Museum of African American History & Culture, Air & Space – all free admission). Afternoon in Arlington National Cemetery, visiting the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and John F. Kennedy gravesite. Optional visit to the Pentagon (must be booked well in advance through your local MP).

Morning at Mount Vernon (optional, if time allows before afternoon flights). Coach transfer to airport and overnight flight back to the UK. Arrive back in the UK early morning/lunch time on Day 5.
